DNA repair

University of Iowa, Summer Intern

Dr. Sarit Smolikove, June 2013 - August 2013

This research internship matched high school students with mentors in different labs, and I was placed in the Smolikove Lab at the University of Iowa. My primary role in this lab was to assist in a forward genetic screen to locate potential genes involved in alternate DNA repair pathways in C. elegans. I used RNA interference to target specific genes in order to achieve desired phenotypes. Additionally, for previously confirmed genes that could partially rescue embryonic lethality, I analyzed chromosome structure in oocytes using DAPI staining.
